It blocks rays from the sun and holds well during strong winds. The new anchor system was a great idea, and when we used it the rust time it held the umbrella sturdier than others on the beach here in NJ. Now for the bad, the images on the site does not match what you get (mine was purchased at a big box store) the spines are not wide enough to keep the shade wide enough during windy days. Also after several uses you have to worry about the pin on the umbrella. They come loose and make the umbrella hard to close and also mine broke off completely and I had the top of the umbrella hit several family members at the beach. I was so embarrassed and upset about this design flaw. This has happened several times where the pin comes loose on other TB umbrellas. Wish this was a bolt rather than a curled piece of metal holding up the both pieces of the umbrella together. Aside from this, and you need to ensure this is a vurnable part of the umbrella that will fail on you if you don't pay attention to it. Hope they fix this flaw in future designs.

I was tired of chasing beach umbrellas down the beach with every gust of wind so I took the plunge and bought this Tommy Bahama umbrella. It was super easy to set up and was amazingly sturdy. On Parker's River Beach on Cape Cod, it was the only umbrella open and standing the day we were there due to gusty winds. Our stout Tommy Bahama's AnchorX system kept our shady paradise firmly anchored. This will be the last beach umbrella you ever have to buy. Strong and styling!!!
