Destination Marlin Bar:
Where Kona, Hawai’i Comes to Unwind
Tucked between the Pacific Ocean and Kohala Mountains on the sun-soaked western coast of Hawai’i, Kona offers a laid-back beachy vibe and the Big Island’s best weather–thanks to its extinct volcano’s rain shadow effect.
Along with sunshine and year-round 80-degree temps, Kona is synonymous with world-renowned coffee, deep Hawaiian history, lava-laden landscapes, and crystal-clear waters—don’t miss your chance to night-snorkel with mystical manta rays!
The chill Kona undertone is punctuated by the rhythm of island life as locals and visitors alike hit the beach, linger in open-air cafes, and sip sundowners to ukelele song. Wherever your Kona-side adventures take you, be sure to end your day in paradise at the Big Island’s only Marlin Bar. Here, a spacious patio calls you to drink up island vibes while enjoying light bites as live music plays and your cares fade away.
Make a Day of It
Spend the morning teeing off at King’s Nine–taking in majestic views of Mauna Kea among dramatic lava formations on the flowing Scottish links-style course. Go for a dip or try standup paddleboarding at A-Bay (Anaehoʻomalu Beach), a reef-protected, palm-shaded, salt-and-pepper swimming beach just a three-minute drive away. Watch for breaching whales off Buddha Point—winter months are peak season for humpbacks in this shallow-water sanctuary. And when the day is done, set down with the sun and enjoy an evening at the Marlin Bar.
Find Us at the Aloha Mural
Located at Queens’ Marketplace in Waikoloa Beach Resort, the bar is moments from the beach surrounded by greens and good vibes. We’re where everyone goes to relax on the patio with their chosen ohana. Come early to wander the marketplace and shop the Tommy Bahama store for a breezy sundress or the perfect happy hour camp shirt.
Best Drinks to Order
Our Frozen Mai Tai tops the list, with the Frozen Piña Colada coming in a close second. These ice-cold boozy slushies make any day feel like a tropical vacay. Need a break from the sun? The Coconut Cloud Martini is second to none.
Best Food to Nosh in Kona
Salt & Pepper Calamari and World Famous Coconut Shrimp is what we’re ordering to start. Main course favorites include the Teri Wagyu Burger cooked just how you like it and Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos on more than just Tuesday. Everyone orders sharables for our daily Happy Hour to try a little taste of everything. Peruse the lunch or dinner menu to start dreaming up your next bite or island-inspired beverage.
For laid-back patio dining, cool drinks, and Big Island Aloha, one guest said it best:
