Between the stabilizing base and metal ribs of the frame, this umbrella handled the strong wind with ease. So, I ordered one and have been completely satisfied with its performance. Though this unbrella is an outstanding performer, you still must be sensible about how you set it up. If you angle it such that it "scoops" the wind like a sail, of course it will be challenged as other reviewers have said. There is a relief vent at the top, despite what other reviews have said. So, if set up properly it will work great. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nanny Avon from A sturdy beach umbrella with its own stand! This umbrella was a Christmas gift for my daughter and son-in-law. Their home is in Maine and this is the winter time. However, when they opened the umbrella they were delighted! It was well made and sturdy. They really liked the built-in stand instead of a less effective separate type that had previously used. They are confident this umbrella will last, and hold up in the wind too!

Sturdy construction, high quality canvas with light reflecting coating. The skirt on the pole that goes on top of the sand helps keep the umbrella stable in wind. We live in a windy place where we’ve had to tie sand bags onto the umbrellas to keep them standing. Not with this one! We are very satisfied. Have never seen a better beach umbrella. Congratulations!

Even though my TB umbrella was pricey, I followed the advice and am happy I did. The best thing is how secure it seems. It’s scary when beach umbrellas take flight on a windy day, the added canvas layer to fill with sand, takes that stress away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SantaCruz Mountains Mom from Easy to install, and withstands high winds It's easy to twist into the sand, either with the handles or without them. I noticed that you don't have to apply a ton of downward pressure, so just twist it easy and don't push too hard on the handles. My husband's approach was to really press down hard while twisting, so he didn't trust the handles enough and just held onto the pole. During big gusts of wind, the older Tommy Bahama umbrellas in my family group (purchased from Costco) inverted easily. This one is so well-made and sturdy, it just wiggled a bit in the wind but did not come out of the ground or invert. I highly recommend spending the extra bucks on this model!
