THINGS WE LOVE ON THE BIG ISLAND:
Mauna Lani Sea Adventures
Located at the Mauna Lani Resort at Maka'iwa Bay, Mauna Lani Sea Adventures offers a variety of ocean activities at reasonable prices. Join the friendly crew on their catamaran, the Winona, for a snorkel sail, sunset sail or whale watch. If you're interested in life under the water, go scuba diving along the Kohala Coast.
Waimea's Farmers' Markets
Visit the farmers' market in beautiful Waimea, the home of the Hawaiian cowboy, and enjoy fresh produce and cheese, unique crafts, delicious food stations, fresh-cut flowers and potted plants for your garden. The largest markets in Waimea are the Waimea Town Market (open Saturdays from 8AM-2PM), the Waimea Homestead Farmers' Market (open Saturdays from 7AM-noon) and, since April 2012, the Waimea Midweek Market at the Pukalani Stables (open Wednesdays from 9AM-4PM).
Take the road less traveled, a.k.a. Kohala Mountain Road (Highway 250), north out of Waimea to the little town of Hawi. You'll find one-of-a-kind boutiques, charming restaurants and art galleries. Continue on to the stunning Pololu Valley Lookout with coastal views of the Hamakua Coast. And, if you feel adventurous, take the hike down into the beautiful valley.
Coffee Farms on Kona and Kau
If you're a fan of California wine tasting tours, you'll love visiting the gourmet coffee farms on the slopes above Kailua-Kona and at Kau on the southern tip of the island. Don't forget to bring some home!
Open 11:30am Daily
Island Time Happy Hour:
Open: 10am-9pm daily
CHEF STENNIS HIRAYAMA
Chef Stennis joined Tommy Bahama in 2012. He graduated in 2000 from the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon and has created culinary works of art ever since. Growing up on the Big Island, Chef Stennis's parents were farmers who taught him the value of hard work, the meaning of family support and the importance of respecting the land.
